Pics-From-My-Camera Department
A tree and some sky...from two months ago.
The first flush of Spring! After the winter's long white spell, the first colors of life are so delicious even the sky suddenly looks animated - what with the blue showing through and the clouds all wispy instead of the dark and brooding clusters of unformed snow.
This picture was taken more than a couple of months ago but I remember how crisp the air felt when BabySparrow and I went out for our walk that day.
And, oh my goodness, the trees! This one is in our condo parking area. There are several others too, but this one is closer to our lot so I wasn't afraid to run up to it and snag a few shots.
Of course, those unbelievable flowers are long gone, but their impact remains both in my mind, and, I hope, in these pictures.

Did I share these?
Here's a couple of illustrations I did recently for a book about family. They were done a few weeks ago, and I looked at them again only now, and I'm not liking the colors at all! It's funny how different your own work looks when you revisit it after a while!
I'm still learning how to draw figures as I go along my assignments. Sometimes I think it would have been good to take some sort of art lessons! Also, I'm using very basic coloring in Illustrator, and I really need to learn how to do some fancy stuff. Right now it's all so new, though, and I never seem to have the time to sit down and learn a few things about Illustrator. All my learning is happening as I'm doing the actual work, so I don't have much opportunity to play around - those deadlines are always looming!

Yikes! No Posts!
My parents are visiting - they arrived Wednesday evening, and I just completely forgot about my blog, not to mention the other two I write for!
I guess family will do that to ya :)
The BabyButton is so excited to have them - truckloads more of love and attention for her, of course!

Handcrafted splendour from India
More pics from India - I don't think I shared these here.
I went to a handicraft exhibition once, and here is a sampling of what I saw. All these amazing objects are handmade lovingly by craftspersons from all over the country. They travel together in organized groups across the land, so at any given 'mela' or fair you can see wonderful creations from many different states all at once.
There was pottery in the juiciest shades...mugs, platters, bowls, dishes - they had them all!
Dots, stripes, geometrics, flowers...YUM!
Lots and lots and lots of them...
Some kind of relief work in black and brown...
And pots with personality!
You can see the handcrafted (im)perfection in the glaze on the scalloped edges - you can tell this is the real thing.
I wish I had a better shot of these slippers - they are jute and cotton with bead and sequins sewn on - all made one by one by hand.
And hand-embroidered, sequin-encrusted, embroidered little clutches for the night out...
The fabrics were unbelievable. These stacks are pure cotton, hand-dyed, and printed by hand with wooden blocks. I actually saw this process several times when I was a kid and lived in the fabled Pink City of Jaipur, and it was simply fascinating.
And of course the silks and brocades, spun as if with light, although these were most likely not handmade. But they were fit for a princess, for sure!

Color!!!
Need I say more?
But I will anyway, hee hee :)
These are little 4"x4" stretched canvas squares, deep and gallery-wrapped - very cute to keep on your shelf or desk. I couldn't use the camera so I scanned them both, and then ended up putting them in virtual frames, as I am wont to do.
Anyhow, these are chunky canvases, not prints or paper, and they are so much more colorful in person.
