Prepping

Art show in June!!!
There's so much I need to figure out - tent, tables, display,
and of course the art!!

Here's a small peek into what I'll be showing.

It's tea time a lot in my paintings these days :)

I'm finding the whole process so magical -
combining watercolors with collage and acrylics on canvas
is way too fun! Looking forward to making more of these!

Mark-making

This world is not made of shades of grey. It is made of colours like azure and coral and emerald and marigold. But it...

Bloom True

This made me think of a whole bunch of waterfall paintings I did once,
although those were all cool blues.

I made this more spring-like, which reminds me of resilience.

In the face of adversity, to bloom true.

Drawing

Sometimes the simplest tools are the most fun!

Stylized botanicals with notepaper and pencil.

My thought cards for the year

Do you make New Year's resolutions?
I don't. I find it easier to try and be mindful
on a daily basis, regardless of the calendar.

Does that mean I live mindfully all the time?
Heck, no. Do I want to? Absolutely!

But for me, small steps work better than
big huge lists of stupendous (yup, stupendous)
intentions and resolutions.

And three is a good number to start with :)

What's on your plate this year?

Magnolia

This is one of those journey vs. destination things.

I've always been a journey person.
The destination is important, of course,
but the road not taken, ah, the charms of that.

This painting began at one place and ended up
somewhere altogether unexpected.

There were magnolias lurking in my mind's eye
(Magnolia season is just ending here,
which always flusters me a bit.  Will I see them again next year?
Will I ever look at them long enough to satisfy me?)

I was thinking about art and healing.

I was thinking black and white.

And yet the picture was something else before.
And now it's like this.
And that's all good :)

Over The Moon Stories Facebook party

Author Suzanne Muir of Over The Moon Stories
asked me if I would like to participate in her blog party.
She is trying to raise money for an iPad for a special needs kid.

It always humbles and amazes me when people organize events
in order to benefit someone else!
I hope this party does well!

Here's my contribution:

Red Leaf
Reproduction print of my original acrylic painting.
I scanned the original and created digital variations,
so I have the same painting in a few different colorways.

The two below are slightly different from each other,
but they both share the same exuberance :)

My contribution is one print in one of the different colorways
(I haven't shown them all here).

It'll be a bit of a luck of the draw kinda thing!

Drop in at Over The Moon Stories this Saturday at 1 P.M. EST
and bid for a good cause.

Mmmm....Roses!

I don't know what color roses I like better than white ones.  Actually I love all flowers in white.  DaddyBoy surprised me with six lovely white stems yesterday!  I guess better than white roses is getting white roses for no reason at all!

YUM!

So I took a bunch of pics, and then I had to do something with them,
of course.

Here's one:

And another:

Wonder if I should list all the 'play' pics in my shop at all...

In any case, what a sweet way to take a break!

After a long time, some digital work

I should really work on my blog
- there's so much I need to do to make it better -

and I definitely need to work on my shop and
PUT SOME WORK IN IT ALREADY!!!

But, when I sat down at the computer I just ended up playing instead.

Again.

In its first life, this picture was an out-of-focus headshot of a hydrangea bloom.

Like so:

A little tweaking later, it metamorphosed into this:

And now I'm thinking:

I wonder if I can translate this into fabric?
