I'm too tired right now to write descriptions (YAAAWN) but they all have all kinds of layerings with silk, cotton, velvet and denim, lace and ribbons, trims and beads and sequins and other bits and baubles that I don't know the names of, all handcrafted, one-of-a-kind and wearble!

My Fabric Jewelry

My forays into fabric were super-popular at the show, and sold before I even took pictures, so I made some more.

These pieces have layer upon layer of fabrics machine and handstitched together, and embellished with hand embroidery, beads, lace, trims, fabric flowers I made, netting, buttons, cabochons, shells - just about anything, even crochet flowers I'd made a while back.

Assymetrical, bohemian and FUN!

I've let all the frayed edges and the handstitching become a part of the piece to celebrate its handemade-ness.

Each piece is unrepeatable and one-of-a-kind!

A cool Spring day. a white cotton dress and this on your wrist. Tea in bone china and cucmber sandwiches...mmm.

Rendezvous At The Taj

Evocative of the colors of Mughal palaces with rich shades of magenta, turquoise, gold and mother-of-pearl, fit for a modern-day princess.

This fabric locket is more than an inch wide and about two inches long from bail to bottom bead, and extremely light around the neck.

This takes a bit longer than you might think, but it's so worth the effort.

I've stitched rows of lace and trimmimgs on to paper using metallic threads, and then embellished them with sequins and cord. I made one all golden, and one all silvery white, and I can't decide which one I like better!
The last piece was crazy-quilted on to paper using whatever my hand reached first, and then also embellished with sequins and a big hand-swen mirror.

The pieces have come out gorgeous, and I love how mounting them on canvas and then mounting that canvas on to a bigger canvas presents them in an eye-catching but understated way.
They look far better in person and are wonderful accessories for any room, as well as being amazing, unique gift items!

Gold on gold on gold - fit for a princess!

My favorite colors - all shades of white - there are six different whites in there.  This would look fabulous in an all-white room.

A more abstract, free-stitched piece, with white and gold and silver all together.  So there, that was all the stitching I spoke about yesterday.  Please share your thoughts!

Sew Much Going On!

Okay, that's a pretty bad pun.  But I did do some sewing today, after struggling with my machine for more than an hour.  See, the poor little thing is usually consigned to hibernation, and then I pull it out and expect it to work like a charm.  Not fair!  Anyway, after losing two or three needles in er...accidents, I managed to get the thing going.  What did I make?  That's for my next post.  (Coz I don't have any pics yet!).  But it came out pretty cool, I think.

What I'd LIKE to make is this:

WOW!

I just don't recall where I found it though, but what a fabulously stylish coat that is.

Anyway, what I made is not wearable at all, it's for the walls.  There, that was a big clue.

In other news, ever since I got back from Houston, I've been dashing around like crazy.  Three days after I returned I had to submit 12 paintings to a cute gallery in the area.  It's called The Happy Place, very appropriately!  Then two days after that I took part (or rather five of my paintings did) in the Niagara Region Orchid Show.  It's mostly for orchid growers but they also exhibit orchid-themed art. 

Annnnd, one of my orchid paintings won a ribbon! 

Next up is the Niagara Etsy Artisans Team show at the end of this month, and I'm trying to get some work together for that.  It'll be so cool to meet other Etsians in the area!

I'm also working on illustrating yet another book.  This one has 25 pictures, and I'm wishing I had more hours in my day!

The NanoBot is in the midst of all this, of course.  She advises me on color choices, and gives me the okay on my drawings.  She even helped me run the sewing machine today, my little elf.
